Solar power or photovoltaic is power by the sun. Modules are erected on your roof or a ground mount near your home that absorb energy and sun light from the sun. This sun light is inverted to energy that can be used to power up your home completely or partially.
A grid tied system is a solar powered system that is still connected to your local power company. A
solar powered system would include modules combined together to form an array, an inverter (or multi
inverters), and a mounting system. You would be using your local power company for storing what you
produce during the day. At night when you get home from work, you draw on the power that you backed
up from the power grid or you could break even, depending upon what your draw is that day.
There is also a grid tied system with battery backup. Instead of using your local power company for
storage, you store the energy rather than have the power company store it for you.
A solar powered system needs to be designed for your home with your family’s needs in mind. Making
your home energy efficient before going solar increases your chances of reducing your electric bill.
Energy efficiency will aid your system that produces energy to go further.
Eventually, you would be able to run your entire home and then be able to cut power from your local utility
company or sell it back to them. The power companies will buy back any extra power you produce but
they don’t have to buy it back at the same costs that they sell it to you.
Many states have tax incentives for homeowners and businesses installing alternative energy. But they can change from year to year. Louisiana has low winds so going solar would be a more viable option.
With the federal incentives, there is not a better time to install solar than now. The investment would
pay more than a C.D. from a bank or any other financial institutions.
Energy efficiency and going solar is the future! Go Solar!
